General Discussion / Re: 27.5 plus wheel set on fatty frame

I'm thinking of doing the same for my Fatboy. Either that or add a 27.5+ to the garage. The 2017 Stache is looking pretty good to with 29+

Specialized Fatboy / Re: Specialized Fatboy Rear Hub Failure Watch
« on: May 10, 2016, 05:51:41 PM »
MTBR has extensive posts and information about failures of the Fatboy rear freehub. Mine is starting to show signs of wear on the free hub (see attached Pic)

Spokes in Wheaton, IL told me to just ride it, it is normal. I can't argue with that, it does seem to be "normal" based on MTBR posts.

I see that many hubs are being replaced under warrenty after full failure. I am wondering if there is a preventative step that can be taken so I don't have to go that route. I'd rather have the bike working and not have to rack myself when it fails.

In my 30 years of riding MTB i've never seen a freehub look like this.

I hear good things about those bikes. I assume you're mostly looking to ride in the snow?

Congrats on the bike and the healthier body!! Beats a gym membership for sure. ;)

Was looking at K2's site and only saw the "Side Show"...

Have any pics of the freak show? Or do you have the name wrong?

Yeah, I went the rigid route too. It reminds me of the good old simple days of rigid mtb :D It only hurts when the speed gets high and your eyes get shaken up ;) Still a fun ride at most common riding speeds.

As time goes by Blutos will show up for < $ I am thinking.

Specialized Fatboy / Specialized Fatboy Rear Hub Failure Watch
« on: June 28, 2015, 06:22:04 PM »
I have been reading about a lot of rear hub failures on the Specialized Fatboy's. I just got a new Fatboy Pro. I took a vid of before and after to capture the sound of the hub freewheeling to try to see if the sound changes over time. I guess I have too much time on my hands :D

Anyway, here it is new...
